Element
A pure substance from which all other things are built; cannot be broken down into simpler substances.
Chemical Symbol
A one- or two-letter abbreviation for an element’s name.
Gold
An element with the chemical symbol Au, derived from the Latin 'aurum'.
Silver
An element with the chemical symbol Ag, derived from the Latin 'argentum'.
Toxicity of Mercury
Mercury (Hg) is a liquid element at room temperature that can enter the body through inhalation, skin contact, or ingestion of contaminated food and water.
Long-term Exposure to Mercury
Can damage the brain and kidneys, cause mental retardation, and decrease physical development.
