Primary somatosensory cortex (primary sensory cortex)
Where general senses are felt
Somatosensory Association Area
Deeper knowledge of general senses.
Occipital lobe
Involved w/ vision.
Visual cortex
Receives visual information.
Visual association area
Allows for recognizing/interpreting things you see.
Broca's area
Performs speech.
Central sulcus
Deep groove that divides the frontal lobe from parietal lobe.
Frontal lobe
Front of central sulcus.
Parietal lobe
extends posterior from central sulcus to parieto-occipital sulcus.
Temporal lobe
Inferior to central sulcus - auditory / smelling
Insula
Only found if you remove the lateral sulcus, deep in cerebral cortex.
Longitudinal fissure
The deep midline groove that separates the left and right cerebral hemispheres of the brain.
Lateral sulcus
Separates the frontal and parietal lobes from the temporal lobe
Parieto-occipital sulcus
Deep groove on the medial surface of the brain that separates the parietal and occipital lobes
Precentral gyrus
Where the PMC (primary motor cortex) is located.
Postcentral gyrus
Where the PSC (primary somatosensory cortex) is located
falx cerebri
Found deep inside in the longitudinal fissure
Primary motor cortex
initiates voluntary movement.
Prefrontal cortex
Front most part of frontal lobe. Performs higher level functions (learning, reasoning, intellect, prediction).
