A pictographic script used by the Indus Valley (Sindhu Sarasvati) Civilization found on pottery and seals, which has not yet been decoded.

An early writing system used by the Sumerians in Mesopotamia that has been successfully decoded.
Hieroglyphics
An early writing system used by Ancient Egypt that has been successfully decoded.
Historical Period
The period of history that began about 5000 years ago with the invention of writing, allowing for exact events and dates.
Fossils
Preserved remains or impressions of plants, animals, or humans buried underground over thousands or millions of years.
Homo habilis
A human ancestor that lived 2.6 million years ago, found in Olduvai Gorge (Kenya and Tanzania) and known for using chopper stone tools.
Homo erectus
A human ancestor that lived 2 million years ago, was the first to leave Africa, and used hand axes and cleavers.
Homo neanderthalensis
A human ancestor with a very large brain that lived in Europe and Southwest Asia until 40,000 years ago, known for making Middle Palaeolithic flake tools.
Isampur
A site in Karnataka, India, about 1.2 million years old where stone tools like cleavers and hand axes were found along with animal fossils.
Palaeolithic Materials
The primary materials used to make tools in the Old Stone Age, specifically Quartzite and Limestone.
Bhimbetka
A UNESCO World Heritage site in Madhya Pradesh containing hundreds of prehistoric cave paintings made with natural pigments.
Athirampakkam
One of the oldest settlements in India, located in Tamil Nadu, dating back approximately 1.5 to 1.7 million years.
Neolithic Revolution
The shift from hunting to farming that completely changed human life through agriculture, animal domestication, and permanent settlements.
Chalcolithic Age
The period known as the 'Copper and Stone Age' marking the beginning of early metallurgy.
Bronze Age
The period where tools and artifacts were made from an alloy of copper and tin, leading to the growth of cities and trade.
Iron Age
An advanced stage of society where iron became widely used to create stronger tools and weapons.
Microliths
Small stone tools characteristic of the Mesolithic Age (Middle Stone Age).
Metallurgy
The process of extraction and shaping of metals, which began during the Chalcolithic Age.
Mesolithic Climate Change
An environmental shift occurring about 120,000 years ago where the climate became warmer, leading to the expansion of grasslands and forests.
Palaeolithic Tools
Specific implements including handaxes, cleavers, choppers, and scrapers used for tasks like chopping meat, cutting wood, and cleaning animal skins.
