Incandescence refers to the emission of light from a material due to its high temperature.

When electrons in materials like metals are very close together, their energy levels overlap. This allows them to move between a wide range of energy levels and emit many different frequencies of light. This is why heated objects, like light bulb filaments, give off a broad range of light colors, creating white light.
