John F. Haas

A Master Plumber who became the first Chief of the Division of Plumbing Construction and Inspection in 1902 when the plumbing trade was recognized in Manila.

NAMPAP

National Plumbers Association of the Philippines, formally organized in 1935 under Manila City Ordinance 2411.

Republic Act No. 1378

Also known as the "Plumbing Law of the Philippines," originated from House Bill No. 962 and signed into law on June 18, 1955, by Pres. Ramon Magsaysay.

National Plumbing Code of the Philippines

A code prepared by NAMPAP that was promulgated and approved by Malacañang on January 28, 1959.

Republic Act No. 6541

The "Building Code of the Philippines" passed in 1972 before Martial Law, which included the National Plumbing Code of 1959 as a referral code in full text.

Revised Plumbing Code of 1999

The plumbing code adopted by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) on December 21, 1999, and approved by President Joseph Estrada pursuant to R.A. 1378.

Plumbing System

A network of pipes, fittings, and valves that carry and control the flow of supply water and wastewater to and from fixtures in a building.

Fixtures

Components, receptacles, or pieces of equipment that use water and dispose of wastewater at the point of water use.

Piping

A series of hollow channels designed to carry supply water to and wastewater away from plumbing fixtures.

Fittings

Components used to connect lengths of pipe within a piping network.

Valves

Devices used to regulate or control the flow of water in a plumbing network.

Water Supply System

The system consisting of piping and fittings that supply hot and cold water from the building supply to fixtures such as lavatories, bathtubs, water closets, and sinks.

Drain, Waste, and Vent (DWV) System

The sanitary drainage system of piping and fittings required to remove water supplied to fixtures from the building into a sewer line or disposal field.

Wastewater Treatment System

An essential waste disposal component that processes raw sewage through primary and secondary treatment stages before discharge or reuse.

Water Supply and Disposal Cycle

The integrated progression of water flow moving through Source, Supply, Distribution, Use, Collection, Disposal, and Treatment back to the original source.

On-Site Sewage Treatment (OSST) Systems

Building-specific waste disposal setups, commonly known as septic systems, used when buildings operate independently of community water treatment plants.

Water-Sealed Traps

Protective water barriers required on all drainage-connected fixtures to prevent foul air and sewer gases from escaping into living spaces.

Registered Master Plumbers

Certified plumbing professionals tasked with the responsibility of maintaining plumbing systems.
