Main Causes of Habitat Loss

Agriculture - Much of the habitat loss from agriculture was done long ago when settlers converted forests and to farms, however, with rising population, the problem is still increasing.

deforestation - Agriculture/infrastructure expansion or more demand for wood (for fuel)

climate change - Sea level rising, habitats are located near coastal regions, prone to flooding/ drowning when sea level rises - a human induced event (Climate change). identified as the main threat to 85% of all species according to ICU's Red list.

Examples and Statistics

Orangutans endangered by palm oil deforestation and 2,000-3,000 orangutans killed annually. Next 50 years extinct.

Australia with 19.6% land protected, including national parks with fossils dating back 550 million years and Indigenous protected areas.
