Collective Protection System (CPS)
A Citadel Air Filtration System designed to protect personnel and equipment from the effects of Chemical, Biological, and Radiological (CBR) contamination.
LM2500 Gas Turbine Engine (GTE)
A marine propulsion engine capable of producing 26,250 brake horsepower (BHP), split into Gas Generator and Power Turbine sections.
Gas Generator (GG)
The section of the GTE that produces a stream of rapidly expanding hot gases to drive itself and the Power Turbine.
Power Turbine (PT)
Component aerodynamically coupled to the GG that extracts energy from hot gases to drive the output shaft and Main Reduction Gear.
Compressor Front Frame (CFF)
Provides the forward attaching point for the engine, houses the A-Sump, and mounts the inlet duct and center body.
Variable Stator Vanes (VSVs)
Vanes whose angular positions are varied by the Main Fuel Control to provide stall-free compressor operation across various speeds.
Compressor Rear Frame (CRF)
A structural member housing the combustor, fuel nozzles, spark ignitors, and supporting the aft end of the Compressor Rotor.
Accessory Gearbox (AGB)
Driven by the fuel pump, it powers support components like the Lube and Scavenge Pump and the air/oil separator.
Main Fuel Control (MFC)
Component that uses inputs like Gas Generator Speed (NGG) and Compressor Inlet Temperature (CIT) to schedule fuel for combustion.
High Speed Flexible Coupling Shaft (HSFCS)
The mechanical link that connects the Power Turbine to the Main Reduction Gear.
LM2500 Module (GTM)
A steel and fiberglass enclosure providing thermal/acoustic protection, designed to withstand 2000∘F for 15 minutes.
Boundary Layer Infra-red Suppression System (BLISS)
Exhaust louvers that mix ambient air with exhaust gases at the top of the mixing tube to reduce infra-red signature.
Lube Oil Storage and Conditioning Assembly (LOSCA)
System that filters, cools, deaerates, and stores the synthetic lube oil (MIL−23699) for one Gas Turbine Module.
Universal Engine Controller (UEC)
Controls the GTE by managing start/stop sequencing, overspeed protection, and Power Level Angle (PLA) control.
Battle Override
An emergency mode that inhibits automatic shutdowns like high vibration or low lube oil pressure, though PT overspeed and operator stops remain active.
Fuel Oil Unloader Valve
A pneumatically-operated valve that maintains fuel pressure at 35PSIG by directing excess fuel back to the Service Tank.
Main Reduction Gear (MRG)
A double-input, double-reduction, double-helical, locked-train, articulated unit with a reduction ratio of 21.35:1.
Synchro-Self-Shifting (SSS) Clutch
An automatic, free-wheeling device that transmits torque from the GTM to the MRG when input speed meets or exceeds output speed.
Prairie Air System
Independent system for each shaft that uses cooled bleed air to reduce noise emitted by the ship's propellers.
Masker Air System
System that uses bleed air regulated to 35PSIG to mask high-frequency machinery noise through emitter rings on the hull.
Hydraulic Oil Power Module (HOPM)
Component that filters and divides CRP oil into control oil (400PSIG) and high-pressure oil (500−1000PSIG).
Machinery Control System (MCS)
Centralized system providing monitoring and control of propulsion, electrical, auxiliary, and damage control equipment.
Fiber Optic Data Multiplex System (FODMS)
A fully redundant system connecting control consoles and sensors using modular building blocks and fiber optic cables.
Model AG9140 Gas Turbine Generator (GTG)
A single-shaft engine with a 14-stage compressor and 4-stage turbine capable of supplying 2500KW of electrical power.
Redundant Independent Mechanical Start System (RIMSS)
An engine coupled to the SSGTG reduction gear that provides shaft power for starting the 501−K34 GTE.
Oil Water Separator (OWS)
Equipment in AMR2 that performs initial oil/water separation using coalescing plate stacks.
Vacuum Collecting, Holding, and Transfer System (VCHT)
Independent systems that collect, hold, or transfer sewage via discharge pumps and vacuum ejectors.
Recovery Assist Securing Transverse (RAST)
System used to assist helicopters during landing, securing, and traversing into the ship's hangars.
