Safety

A form (such as form F-LAB-01) retrieved from the Chemical Preparation room to request and issue laboratory items before starting a practical activity.

Appropriate protective gear required in the laboratory, including safety goggles or glasses, lab coat or long sleeves, gloves, long pants, and closed-toe shoes.

Wafting

The method of smelling a substance in the laboratory by fanning vapor with your hand from the container toward your nose and inhaling cautiously, rather than placing your nose directly over the container.

Corrosive Substance

A substance that will damage or destroy other materials with which it comes into contact through a chemical reaction.

Safety Alert Symbol

A symbol shown alongside signal words to alert users to potential personal injury or property damage.

DANGER (Signal Word)

A signal word that warns of hazards that WILL cause serious personal injury, death, or major property damage.

WARNING (Signal Word)

A signal word that warns of hazards that CAN cause serious personal injury, death, or major property damage.

CAUTION (Signal Word)

A signal word that warns of hazards that CAN cause serious personal injury or property damage.

NOTICE (Signal Word)

A signal word that indicates special instructions which are very important and must be followed.

A standardized document containing comprehensive occupational safety and health data, including chemical properties, hazards, protective measures, and safety precautions.

The section of an SDS containing product identifier, manufacturer or distributor name, address, phone number, emergency phone number, recommended use, and restrictions on use.
