Deontology
An ethical theory that judges the morality of actions based on rules and duties rather than consequences.
Non-Consequentialist
A principle stating that the morality of an action is not determined by its outcomes.
Kantian Ethics
Ethical theory developed by Immanuel Kant emphasizing duty and adherence to moral law over consequences.
Categorical Imperative
An absolute, unconditional requirement that asserts authority in all circumstances.
Perfect Duties
Duties that individuals must constantly perform, with no exceptions.
Imperfect Duties
Duties that are praiseworthy but not required at all times, allowing for flexibility.
Universalisability
The principle that one should act only in ways that one would be willing to be universal laws for everyone.
Moral Worth
The value of an action determined by its adherence to duty rather than consequences.
Duty-based Ethics
The belief in doing the right thing simply because it is the right thing to do.
Moral Principle
Guidelines or rules that dictate moral behavior and ethical decision-making.
Maxim
A general rule of conduct or a principle that motivates an individual’s actions.
