Food Chain

A food chain is a picture that shows how each living thing gets its food. Energy is transferred through the chain. 

Food Web

A picture that shows multiple food chains in one ecosystem.

Energy

The ability to do work.

Producer

A living thing that makes its own food.

Consumer

A living thing that cannot make its own food. Consumers eat other living things. 

Herbivore

A consumer that only eats plants.

Carnivore

A consumer that only eats meat (other animals).

Omnivore 

A consumer that eats plants and animals. 

Decomposer

A consumer that gets food by breaking down dead things.

Scavenger

A consumer that only eats dead things.

Ecosystem 

An area in nature where animals and plants interact. Food webs are found in all ecosystems. 

Predator

A animal that eats other animals.

Prey 

An animal that is eaten by other animals.
