Resounding success
A very great or complete success.
Dismal failure
A total or complete failure, often characterized by a lack of success.
To rise to a challenge
To show that you are able to deal with a difficult situation successfully.
Faint possibility
A very small or remote chance that something might happen.
To amend
To change the words of a law or a document.
To convert
To change the form, character, or function of something, such as a building or money.
Subtle change
A change that is so small that it is barely noticeable.
Comprehensive information
Information that is complete and includes everything that is necessary.
Acrid smell
A strong, bitter, and unpleasant smell that often irritates the nose or eyes.
Pungent smell
A very strong and sharp smell, often used to describe spices or certain chemicals.
To allocate time
To set aside or designate a specific amount of time for a particular purpose.
Slapdash
Doing work or tasks in a careless or hasty manner.
Prickly relationship
A relationship that is difficult to handle or deal with because the person is easily annoyed.
To get on like a house on fire
To have a very good and fast relationship with someone.
To put a great strain on a relationship
To cause pressure or difficulty in a relationship between people.
Child prodigy
A young child who has a great natural ability in a particular subject or skill.

To be good at arithmetic or mathematical calculations.
Clichéd
Something that is very common and has been used so much that it is no longer interesting or effective.
To toss and turn
To move around in bed because you cannot sleep.
Chronic condition
A medical condition or illness that lasts for a long time.
To pull or put one's back out
To injure your back by moving in a way that displaces a bone or muscle.
Adverse effect
A harmful or negative effect on someone or something.
Audacious plan
A plan that is extremely bold, daring, or original.
To undercut
To charge a lower price than a competitor.
Self-reliant
Being able to do things and make decisions by yourself without needing help from others.
To be seething with anger
To be feeling very angry but trying to hide or control it.
To be impervious to criticism
To not be affected or influenced by what others say about your work or actions.
Spic(k) and span
A room or house that is extremely neat, tidy, and clean.
Muffled sound
A sound that is quiet or not clear because it is blocked by something.

To see something or someone for a very short time and not clearly.
Voracious reader
Someone who reads a lot and is very eager to read more.
Ozone layer
The part of the earth's atmosphere that protects the earth from harmful radiation from the sun.
Traffic congestion
The state of being extremely crowded with vehicles, causing slow movement.
To polish off
To finish something, especially food, completely and quickly.
To quench one's thirst
To drink something so that you are no longer thirsty.
Fraudulent claim
An illegal or dishonest claim made to get money or an advantage.
In arrears
Being late in paying money that is owed.
On hire purchase
A system of buying expensive goods by making regular small payments over a period of time.
