Diagrammatic presentation of data
The method of presenting data through diagrams or pictoral forms to make a complex mass of data simple, understandable, and appealing to the eye.
One-Dimensional Diagrams
Also known as Bar diagrams, these diagrams take into account only one dimension of the figure, which is the height or the length.
Simple Bar Diagrams
A group of rectangular bars of equal width whose heights are in proportion to the magnitude of a single variable or one particular type of data.
Multiple-Bar Diagrams
Diagrams used to study two or more inter-related variables, such as import and export or income and expenditure, for different years side-by-side.
Sub-Divided Bar Diagrams
Also called Component Bar Diagrams, these are used to represent data that are broken into parts or which are totals of various sub-divisions.
Percentage Bar Diagrams
A form of relative bar diagram where sub-divided bars are drawn based on percentage values rather than actual values, with the total height representing 100.
Broken-Bar Diagrams
Diagrams used to save space when there is a very wide variation between values, requiring the largest bars to be broken.
Deviation Bar Diagrams
Diagrams that depict net changes in data, such as net profit or loss, showing deviations in both positive and negative directions.
Pie Diagrams
Also known as angular diagrams, these are circular diagrams divided into segments where the size of each segment indicates the proportion of a component part to the whole.
