What are the 3 types of muscle?
smooth, cardiac, and skeletal muscle
Skeletal muscle
Striated, multinucleated, voluntary muscle attached to bones, surrounded and bundled by connective tissue.
Smooth muscle
Involuntary, non-striated muscle found inside many internal organs of the body
Cardiac muscle
Involuntary, non-striated muscle tissue found only in the heart. Has intercalated discs.
Voluntary
muscles that can be controlled by the brain
Involuntary
muscles that can't be controlled by the brain
Muscle Rule 1
muscles must have at least 2 attachments and must cross at least one joint
Muscle Rule 2
muscles always pull and get shorter
Muscle Rule 3
the attachment that moves is known as the insertion, and the attachment that remains stationary is known as the origin
Muscle Rule 4
muscles that decrease the angle between ventral surfaces of the body are known as flexors. Muscles that increase the angle between ventral surfaces of the body are known as extensors
Muscle Rule 5
muscles work in opposing pairs
Muscle Rule 6
muscle striations point to the attachments and show the direction of pull
What tear did Caleb have?
Pectoralis major grade 2 tear
Muscles are named based on what?
based on one or more of its features: shape, size, location, direction of fibers, action/function, attachments, and number of origins.
Skeletal muscles are attached by what?
tendons to bones
