• Unable to swallow on command or decreased level of consciousness that prevents safe oral administration.

• Do not administer when blood glucose is high.

What else can you use to raise blood sugar?

maple syrup, fruit juice, or non-diet soda may be used. If mental status remains altered,

do not delay transport.

What is the dosage for Albuterol + Ipratropium (pre-mixed)?

2.5 mg Albuterol + 0.5 mg Ipratropium = 3 mL (one pre-mixed vial=one dose). may repeat to 3 total doses

How do you administer Albuterol + Ipratropium (pre-mixed)?

Nebulized using oxygen at 6–8 LPM (ideally 6 LPM)

When do you use Albuterol + Ipratropium (pre-mixed)?

• Effective but increased work of breathing with wheezing in adult asthma/COPD/wheezing.

• Wheezing in anaphylaxis/allergic reaction.

• Pediatric asthma/wheezing at EMT or higher under the protocol.

What are Precautions to take when using Albuterol + Ipratropium (pre-mixed)?

• Known albuterol allergy.

• Tachycardic arrhythmia.

• Adult asthma protocol excludes traumatic dyspnea and suspected pneumothorax.

• Additional doses beyond standing orders require medical control.

What is the dosage for Naloxone?

One prefilled IN unit dose (maximum 4 mg); repeat once after 5 min if respiratory effort does not improve

When do you use Naloxone?

Suspected opioid overdose with respiratory insufficiency (slow, shallow, ineffective respirations) or respiratory arrest.

What are Precautions to take when using Naloxone?

• Known naloxone hypersensitivity.

• Use caution in opioid-dependent patients because acute withdrawal may occur.

• No usable intranasal access.

• Do not give solely for altered mental status when breathing is adequate.

• Airway management, oxygenation, and ventilation remain the priority.
