Penis
Part of the external genitalia of human males, used for urination and sexual intercourse.
Urethra
The tube that allows urine and semen (in males) to exit the body.
Scrotum
Part of the external genitalia of human males, holds and protects the testes and epididymis.
Testes
The site of sperm and male hormone production, located in the scrotum.
Epididymis
The coiled tube on top of each testicle, where sperm cells mature.
Vas deferens
A muscular tube that carries sperm from the testes to the urethra.
Seminal vesicles
A pair of glands that produce fluids released before sexual intercourse.
Prostate
A large, singular gland that surrounds the urethra and produces fluids that are part of semen.
Bulbourethral glands
A pair of glands that produce fluids that contribute to semen.
Semen
A fluid material released from the male reproductive tract that contains sperm and other liquids.
Sperm
The male reproductive cells produced by the testes.
Spermatogenesis
The process that produces sperm cells in the seminiferous tubules of the testes through meiosis.
Spermiogenesis
The final maturation stage of sperm, where spermatids develop into mature spermatozoa.
Path of Sperm
Testes ➔ Epididymis ➔ Vas deferens ➔ Seminal vesicles ➔ Prostate gland ➔ Bulbourethral glands ➔ Urethra ➔ Exit body (Penis).
Male reproductive anatomy
The anatomical structures involved in the male reproductive system, including the penis, scrotum, and associated glands.
Function of the testes
To produce sperm and male hormones, primarily testosterone.
Function of the epididymis
To store and mature sperm cells produced by the testes.
Function of seminal vesicles
To produce a significant portion of the fluid that nourishes sperm and makes up semen.
Function of the prostate gland
To produce fluids that help maintain sperm viability and assist in ejaculation.
Function of bulbourethral glands
To secrete a fluid that lubricates the urethra and neutralizes acidity prior to ejaculation.
Meiosis in sperm production
The specialized type of cell division that reduces the chromosome number by half, producing sperm cells.
Difference between spermatogenesis and spermiogenesis
Spermatogenesis is the overall process of sperm production, while spermiogenesis is the final maturation of sperm cells into mature spermatozoa.
What is the Spermatogenesis Process?
It is the biological process responsible for the production of sperm cells within the seminiferous tubules of the testes, involving meiosis.
Where does Spermatogenesis occur?
Spermatogenesis occurs specifically in the seminiferous tubules located inside the testes.
What type of cell division is involved in Spermatogenesis?
Spermatogenesis involves meiosis, a specialized form of cell division.
