What are the parts of the upper body

  • Pectoral girdle: scapula & clavicle 

  • Humerus (upper arm bone) attaches to pectoral girdle at glenoid fossa (hollow in head of scapula)

  • Lower arm bones: radius & ulna

  • Wrist bones: carpals (8)

  • Hand bones: metacarpals (5)

Finger bones: phalanges (3x4=12)(2 thumb) = 14 total

what are the parts of the lower body

  • Pelvic girdle: ilium, ischium, & pubis bones 

  • Femur (upper leg bone) fits into pelvic girdle at acetabulum (socket on lateral side of pelvis) 

  • Lower leg bones: tibia & fibula

  • Knee cap: patella 

  • Ankle bones: tarsals (8)

  • Foot bones: metatarsals (5)

  • Toe bones: phalanges (5 toes) (3 bones per toe (digits 2, 3, 4, 5,) big toe (hallux) has only 2.

  • Therefore 14 total bones make up the toes.
