What are the four primary tissue types?

Epithelial, Connective, Muscle, and Nervous tissue.

What is the function of epithelial tissue?

Covers body surfaces, lines cavities, protects, secretes, and absorbs.

What is the function of connective tissue?

Supports, binds, protects, stores energy, and transports substances.

What is the function of muscle tissue?

Produces movement by contraction.

What is the function of nervous tissue?

Receives, processes, and transmits nerve impulses.

Where is epithelial tissue found?

On body surfaces, lining organs, and forming glands.

What are the characteristics of epithelial tissue?

Closely packed cells, little extracellular matrix, avascular, and has a basement membrane.

What are the three basic shapes of epithelial cells?

Squamous, Cuboidal, and Columnar.

What are the three arrangements of epithelial tissue?

Simple, Stratified, and Pseudostratified.

What is simple epithelium?

A single layer of cells.

What is stratified epithelium?

Two or more layers of cells.

What is pseudostratified epithelium?

A single layer that appears to have multiple layers.

What are the major types of connective tissue?

Loose connective tissue, Dense connective tissue, Cartilage, Bone, Blood, and Adipose tissue.

What is adipose tissue?

Connective tissue specialized for fat storage.

What is cartilage?

A flexible connective tissue that supports and cushions joints.

What is bone tissue?

A rigid connective tissue that provides support and protection.

What is blood?

A fluid connective tissue that transports gases, nutrients, wastes, and hormones.

Skeletal, Cardiac, and Smooth muscle.
