What is an endothermic reaction?
It is a reaction that transfers energy from the surroundings to the substance.

What is an exothermic reaction?
It is a reaction that transfers energy from the substance to the surroundings.
What are examples of endothermic reactions?
Some chemical reactions, melting and boiling, dissolving some substances in water
What are examples of exothermic reactions?
Some chemical reactions (combustion), freezing and condensing, dissolving some substances in water

What is an energy level diagram?
An energy level diagram shows the change of state from the reactants to the products.
If, in an energy level diagram, the arrow was pointing up, what reaction would it be showing.
Endothermic reaction
If, in an energy level diagram, the arrow was pointing down, what reaction would it be showing.
Exothermic reaction
What is the energy change measured in?
MJ/kg

What are chemical bonds?
They are the strong forces connecting atoms together.
If there is more energy for bond breaking, what reaction is it?
Endothermic
If there is more energy for bond making, what reaction is it?
Exothermic

What are catalysts?
They are substances that speed up chemical reactions and don’t get used up themselves in the reaction.

What is a catalytic converter?
It converts harmful pollutants into less harmful substances.

What are the catalysts in a catalytic converter?
Metals (platinum or rhodium)
