Satellite cells

Epimysium

Sarcomere

Repeating contractile unit of a myofibril

Sarcoplasmic reticulum

Network of channels surrounding and running perpendicular to each myofibril; storage sites for calcium

Transverse tubules

Extend from sarcolemma to sarcoplasmic reticulum; spreads action potential from outer membrane inward to deeper cell region

Terminal cisterna

Portion of SR near t-tubules that contains the Ca+

Myofibrils

Threadlike structures which make up a muscle fiber

Myosin

Thick protein filaments. Contain cross-bridges that have high affinity for actin

Actin

Major component of thin protein filaments
