What is the Harlem Renaissance?

Intellectual and cultural revival of African-American arts and expression centered in Harlem, New York City between the 1910s and 1930s, centering in the 1920s

Jazz in Harlem inspired the area's culture in the Roaring 20s’. Showy jazz inspired large crowds to attend band performances and create clubs that attracted white residents in the area to engage with the culture.

Key figures included Langston Hughes, Zora Neale Hurston, Duke Ellington, and Louis Armstrong, whose works laid the foundation for future generations of African-American artists.
