What are two arguments that can be maid to why all objects accelerate at the same rate in Free-fall ?

  • Weight: Comparing two objects of different masses. The more massive one is heavier as it has more weight. Since the only force acting on the object is weight, it should fall faster (W congruent m)

  • Inertia: Comparing two object of different masses, the more massive one has more innertia, resisting more changes in motion and falling in a smaller acceleration (I congruent m)

2
New cards

So why do objects fall at the same rate during Free-fall conditions ?

The force with more mass has a greater force acting, making its acceleration greater, and more inertia, which would make the acceleration smaller. The two effects balance, making both objects have the same acceleration.

3
New cards

What two forces act on an object during non-freefall conditions

Air resistance and weight (Net Force is now important)

4
New cards

what does air resistance depend on ?

R congurent to v², as an object moves faster, it expiriences more air resistance

5
New cards

What is terminal Velocity ?

the final, constant velocity that an object in nonfreefall achieves when the air resistance force equals the object´s weight.

6
New cards

Why do heavier objects in non-freefall fall faster ?

The acceleration of a heavier object must must increase for a longer period of in order for the air resistance to grow big enough so that it can equal its large weight.
