Electricity
The movement of electrons between atoms through a wire or a conductor.
Electrical conductors
Materials, often metal, where electrons are free to move and carry an electrical charge.
Electrical insulators
Materials like rubber and plastic that cannot conduct electricity because their electrons are not free to move.
Electrical Hazard
Any dangerous condition involving electricity that can cause injury, burns, fire, explosions, or even death.
Damaged Insulation
When the protective non-conductive plastic, rubber, or polymer coating surrounding a wire has worn down, cracked, melted, or torn.
Overloading
A hazard that happens when too many appliances are connected to one outlet or extension cord.
Damp Electrical Condition
Risky situations including using appliances with wet hands, keeping equipment near sinks, or exposing devices to rain.
Faulty Wiring
An electrical hazard involving loose connections, damaged conductors, incorrect installation, or deteriorated wiring.
Faulty Wiring Warning Signs
Indications such as sparking, burning smell, buzzing, crackling, hot outlets, or flickering lights.

A condition that happens when electrical current passes through the body.
Electrocution
Death resulting from electric shock.
Energy loss

When energy is consumed without providing a useful benefit, such as leaving lights on in an empty room.
Electrons
Negatively charged particles found in all materials.

Critical physical reactions including cardiac arrest, difficulty breathing, and death.
