Deceleration lane
A lane where vehicles reduce speed when exiting a highway.
Traffic circle entry
A driver entering the circle must yield to vehicles already in the traffic circle.
Left turn (Two-way road onto a one-way road)
The vehicle should enter the lane nearest the curb on the left side of the one-way road.
Uncontrolled "T" intersection
When two vehicles approach at right angles at the same time, the vehicle on the left must yield the right-of-way.
Railway crossing pavement marking
A large "X" painted on the pavement indicates a railway crossing ahead.
Following too close
A driver should slow down gradually and encourage the other vehicle to pass.
Skid recovery
A driver should steer in the direction they want the front of the vehicle to go.
Illuminated red "X" traffic-lane control light
Travel is not permitted in that lane.
Parental consent withdrawal
A parent can withdraw consent for an operator's licence if the person is still under 18 and is not self-supporting or married.
Yield sign procedure
Yield the right-of-way to traffic not facing the sign and all pedestrians in the intersection.
Over-driving headlights
Travelling at a speed which would not permit the driver to see an object in time to stop.
GDL passenger demerits
Under the Graduated Driver Licensing program, a driver receives 2 demerits for having more passengers than there are seat belts.
2-second rule
A method to judge a safe following distance that is accurate at any speed.
Flashing red traffic light
A driver must stop and proceed only when safe to do so.
Alberta passenger restraint law
The driver's responsibility to ensure all passengers under 16 years of age are properly restrained.
Parallel parking distance
The vehicle's wheels closest to the curb must be within a maximum of 30cm from the curb.
School zone speed limit hours
On school days during the hours of 8:00A.M. to 9:30A.M., 11:30A.M. to 1:30P.M., and 3:00P.M. to 4:30P.M.
Parked uphill on a two-way road with a curb
The vehicle's front wheels should be turned to the left.
Stopped school bus with flashing red lights
A driver must stop behind the bus and wait until the alternating red lights stop flashing.
Road test refusal
A driver examiner will refuse a road test if the vehicle is not mechanically safe.
Passing speed limit rule
It is never permitted to exceed the speed limit when passing another vehicle.
Nighttime definition
The period of time beginning 1 hour after sunset and ending 1 hour before the following sunrise.

A driver must stop at least 5metres from the nearest rail until the train has passed.

Must be obeyed at all times.
Threshold braking
Applying an even braking force to the point just before the wheels lock and easing off slightly if they do lock.

When approached by a siren, drive as close as possible to the right curb or edge of the road and stop.
Slow-moving vehicle sign
Must be displayed on the rear of any vehicle that normally travels at speeds less than 40km/h.
Weave Zone
A place on a highway where entrance and exit lanes are close together and vehicles must cross paths to exit or enter.
Reversing in a straight line
Place the left hand at the top of the steering wheel and look over the right shoulder through the rear window.
Acceleration lane
A lane in a merge area for use by vehicles entering the highway.
Class 7 license time restriction
A learner is not permitted to drive between the hours of Midnight and 5:00A.M.
Flashing yellow traffic light
Proceed with caution.

100km/h unless otherwise posted.
Fully licensed driver suspension threshold
A driver is suspended when they accumulate 15 points.
Class 7 operator's license suspension threshold
A learner is suspended when they accumulate 8 demerits.
Speed limit signs
Indicate the maximum speed permitted when conditions are favourable.
Uncontrolled intersection
An intersection that has no traffic control signal lights or traffic signs.
