Hemabate (conboprost)

For stopping post partum hemmorage. Contraindication is asthma. Side effect is diahrreah and it is IM injection

Oxytocin/pitocin

This is to induce contractions to induce labor or to stop post partum hemorage. Do not discontinue oxytocin until you know that they are not bleeding anymore. give IM/IV. Don’t give if tachysystolic, even though it is compatable with most fluids it gets it’s own line and it’s plugged in to the closest port to mom

Misoprostol (cytotec)

This is to induce labor like when the bisoph’s score is less than four or mom is greater than 40 weeks. Can cause abortion in 2nd trimester. Give IM, intravaginally or rectal

Methylegoren (methergine)

Used to prevent postpartum hemmorage. Don’t give if pt is hypertensive. Give IM

Magnesium sulfate

Give for preeclampsia to prevent seizures and stop preterm labor. This can be a neuroprotector to baby

Signs of mag toxicity

Decreased RR, DTR, BP, and LOC

Betamethosone

Used to increase surfactant in babies that are under 37 weeks. Given IM with 2 doses of 12mg 24 hours apart

Terbutaline

Stop contractions contraindication is heart palpatations

Nifedipine

Is a CCB used to decrease BP, can cause hypotension

Lanoline

Dry cracked nippes

How to treat group B strep?

Penicillin

Check moms for group B strep

35-37 weeks

When to give rhogam shot?

26-28 weeks after delivery

PKU, make sure to use warm compress for that heel stick

Photo therapy, breast feed. With phototherapy prevent dehydration, eye protectors, take temp, diaper only, turn every 2 hours

Give sucrose, watch for bleeding, baby should pee within 6 hours of procedure
