What causes pressure inside a container

Get a hint
Hint

The particles inside a container move around and hit the walls of the containers hard and often to cause pressure.

Hint

What are two variables that can affect pressure inside a container, and how do they impact pressure

Get a hint
Hint

Two variables that affect pressure inside a container are volume and temperature. If the volume decreases, the pressure increases because the gas molecules collide more often. If the temperature increases, the pressure also increases because the gas molecules move faster and collide more forcefully.

What are two variables that can affect pressure inside a container, and how do they impact pressure

Two variables that affect pressure inside a container are volume and temperature. If the volume decreases, the pressure increases because the gas molecules collide more often. If the temperature increases, the pressure also increases because the gas molecules move faster and collide more forcefully.

What is vapor pressure

When a liquid is sealed in a container with some liquid in it, that liquid has to gain up enough energy to evaporate and thus some of it will bounce off the walls of its container, which creates vapor pressure

Temperature

The average kinetic energy of a large number of particles

What happens to the boiling point of water when the pressure increases

When the pressure increases, the boiling point of water also increases. This is because higher pressure makes it harder for water molecules to escape into the air, so they need more heat to boil.

Is all boiling water hot?

Not exactly, the particles just need enough energy to leave the liquid and turn into a gas. It can also be done by highering or lowering pressure. For example in space the boiling point is lower because the pressure is extremely low compared to earth where it is higher due to the higher pressure.
