Prenatal Development
Stage of development where you can see color and 3D shapes at 4 months.
5 Months
At this point, the fetus can react to loud noises and hear music (prenatal development).
Third Trimester (8-9 months)
The mother has to be careful with what they consume, as the baby's brain is still growing.
Human Embryo
Develops a neural tube starting sixteen days after fertilization.
Migration
Process of cells moving to the correct location in the brain, becoming neurons and forming the nervous system.
Brain Fully Developed
Around 4-6 months during prenatal development.
Prefrontal Cortex Maturing
Occurs in adolescence and is associated with making moral decisions.
Prefrontal Cortex
Helps people make rational decisions, focus on long-term consequences, and reduces impulsiveness.
Prefrontal cortex
Matures around age 25, marking full brain development.
Alzheimer's Disease & Parkinson's Disease
Neurodegenerative disorders that individuals develop during later adulthood.
Prefrontal Cortex
Regulates decision-making and moderates social behavior; not fully matured in adolescence.
Limbic System
Controls emotions and is the first part of the brain to mature.
Brain Development
The frontal lobes continue to develop during adolescence and reach maturity around age 16.
Dweck & Willingham
Learning theory emphasizing nurture, contrasting with Piaget's nature perspective.
Three Learning Styles
Visual, auditory, and kinesthetic.
Willingham's idea on learning styles
The idea that people learn best when the information is meaningful
