Pobre Ana Bailó Tango-Summary of Chapters

Chapter 1- Background

Last year Ana lived in California on Hermosa Beach and she went to West Torrance High School. She has a normal family of a Mother-Ellen and Father-Robert, she also has two Siblings (Patty is 11 years old and Don is 14 years old). Ana is 15 years old. Her friends names are Elsa and Sara. Also Ana works so that she is payed money.

Chapter 1-Jobs of Parents/Issues in the Family.

Jobs- The family has a very small house compared to the friends of Ana. The father is a cook at a hospital and the Mother is a secretary at the same hospital. This hospital is called Mercy Hospital.

Problems- Ana has problems with her family because her father doesn't make enough money (important), so that she can go buy new clothes with her friends. And have her own car like her friends

Ana also has problems with her mother because she is always yells and is annoyed with Ana.

As well as her siblings because when she needs help with something they never help her.

Chapter 1- Opportunity

School-Ana takes a school to bus, after going to her spanish class her teach talks about them having a chance to go to Mexico and the school paying the fees.

She learned many things about Mexico and how money isn't everything.

Once she got back she was very grateful for her parents and the life she lived.

Chapter 2- Aftermath of the trip

She wanted to travel the world after her previous trip. She wanted to learn the cultures and ways of many cities in Latin America. She read books about

Latin America-Buenos Aires, one where a Mountain is called Aconcagua is 6.962 meters tall. Also that they sell a lot of meat. Many Europeans there. She also learned about the history of tango.

Chapter 2- Thoughts and more information

Thoughts-Her parents approved because it would done through a spanish program at her school. The students are able to visit Argentina and live with a family from there.

More Information- She finds more information about the spanish schools in Buenos Aires through the governmental website of the city.

Personal Fact- Ana loves the singer Shakira.

Chapter 3- In buenos Aires

Before-Ana learns how they pronounce different words and their meanings. She also learned that Astor Piazzolla is a composer of the Tango. As well as the Plata which has a very big and wide river.

After- She is picked by the Garcia Family, they live the Boca neighborhood. She has many questions for them, like what the culture, the music, the tango dance, and the costumbres.

During- Ana booked class for the tango with cost 30 dollars. Although she is only there for a month.

Chapter 3- The Garcia's

Gustavo and Angela are the parents of Alejandra. They live in a very nice area in Buenos Aires. Ana ends up being friends with Alejandra. Ana has her own room.

Chapter 4- Second day

For breakfast Ana had hot chocolate and jam bread. In Argentina the name of "fresa" is "frutilla". Milo in Argentina is like the Nestlé o el chocolate Hershey.

Once Ana goes to her first tango class she discovers that her teach is very hot, his name is Enrique Sánchez.

After the class she is very sad (wants to impress Enrique) since she is not very good at dancing the tango. Enrique says that she needs to buy tango shoes, so that she can dance better.

Chapter 5- The Search of shoes

At first she goes to street of Carlos Gardel, in neighborhood of Abasto. Usually for women in Argentina their feet are very small but Ana had very big feet, so they didn't have her size.

In order to solve this problem they decided to go to a personal shoemaker so costume fit shoes to her size.

Chapter 6-The tango shoes

It took about 2 hours just to look for a shoemaker. Ana's shoe size is 42 but for women in Argentina that is very big.

During her wait, she is offered hot tea which is something that many Argentines enjoy.

It takes about 3 hours to make the shoes. In total it cost 30 dollars.

Chapter 7- Ana's dream

Once she arrived and started dancing she became as good as an professional. She danced with Enrique everyone at the class clapped at the end and were very impressed with her. At the end of the dream Enrique asks if she will be his girlfriend. Although Ana does not get to respond since she wakes up.

Chapter 7-

Chapter 7- Ana in class

During the actual class there is not a really big change in her dancing but after it ends Enrique asks her to join him for a meal. So she leaves her tango shoes in the conner of the room. She doesn't take them because they are for dancing not for wearing out to eat.

Chapter 7- The meal

Food-Comía un bife bien cocido y una ensalada con tomate, lechuga y cebolla. Tambíen aceite de oliva, vinagre y sal. During the meal there is a group of students from a spanish class dancing and singing in the restaurant. Also we learn that Enrique is 22 years old.

Chapter 7- After the meal

They then return back to tango classroom to grab Ana's shoes but when the get there, she can't find them. This makes Ana worry that someone stole her shoes or someone thought they were their own shoes.

Chapter 8- Next day after the shoe event

Ana is looking forward to joining a spanish class to better understand the language. She decides on taking spanish 2. In the class she is surprised by the different use of pronouns like "tú" and "vos". The teacher teaches Argentina grammar. Ana wants to learn how to speak spanish very well.

Chapter 9- THE SHOES ON SOMEONE ELSE

Renata an italian girl and is from Italy pick up her shoes since no one came back for them and it was the only size of shoes that would fit her. Before Ana knew this is become very upset and the class started gossiping about Renata thinking she stole them. They have the same size feet 42. Ana forgives her and then a song about someone steal tango shoes plays and everyone laughs. They become good friends after.

Chapter 10- summary

During her last week there Ana does many fun activities and tango/spanish classes. Ana is leaving to go back to California but will visit everyone again. The Garcias take her to the airport.Like- Los argentinos les gusta mucho la carne, la pizza, los abrazos, los besos en la mejilla y tomar mate.

Activities- Ana visitó la catedral y el obelisco y aprendió mucho sobre el tango. Ana and Enrique do-Los dos iban a comer mucho. Comían juntos en varios restaurantes.

Renata is now a good friend of Ana's.

Ana is a special person to Enrique.

Plans for the future- Enrique visitará Ana en los Algene y mirará un partido de béisbol profesional. (Dodgers)

Before Ana left Renata came to say goodbye to her at the airport and told her that she should visit her in Italy in the future and could stay with them. (During the summer)
