anaphora

starting multiple sentences or lines of a song with the same words or phrases to emphasize a point

metaphor

making a comparison between two things by saying that they are the same, forcing you to see the common elements

allusion

making an indirect reference to something without explaining the context, so the audience/reader has to fill in the gaps for the connection themselves

euphemism

replacing an offensive or impolite subject with a softer phrase that still gets the point across (kicked bucket instead of died)

effect

impact (such as emotion) that a speaker or writer creates in the audeince using specific langauage

purpose

using language to effecitively persuade, inform or change the audience members perspective

tone

the way the author speaks or their attitude towards the audience, situation or subject
