Pilgrimage
A journey often undertaken for spiritual or religious reasons, typically involving travel to a sacred site. Historically significant in many cultures and religions, signifying devotion and faith.
Caravan
A group of travelers journeying together, often across deserts or through challenging terrains, for trade or pilgrimage. Can travel on camels and bring many different supplies for the journey.
Canvanserai
A roadside inn where travelers and their caravans could rest, refresh, and resupply during long journeys, often found along trade routes. These establishments provided essential services such as food, shelter, and safety for merchants and pilgrims.
Government
Would protect the city and provide safety for the travelers coming into the city. The travelers would also pay taxes for their goods to enter the city, making sure the goods were safe.
City
Would protect people on their journeys meaning that the travelers would feel safe because of the strong protection and would be able to get supplies from the it.
State Power
Government being in charge of the trade network led to a stable economy meaning that travelers were able to buy and sell their goods without being worried. The area was also very wealthy since it power over all of the trade routes.
Funduq
A hotel that merchants stayed in to then learn and gain advice about trading. They were very helpful because they provided a place for rest and for the pilgrims to learn on their journeys, so if they were unsure they could learn a lot of different things.
Madrassa
Colleges or schools that were attached to mosques which would teach things such as religion, math, and science to help educate travelers on their journeys when they were traveling.
Souq
A marketplace where many different people could come together to trade and sell many different goods and items. Could sell things such as food, spices, and glass. Supported the economy of the place because it allowed for many different people and cultures.
