Timely events that affect people's lives and require immediate attention and solutions.

Contemporary Issues and Problems in the Philippines
Issues resulting from global changes, such as growing population, environmental destruction, widespread poverty, human rights violations, government corruption, and threats of terrorism.
Calamity
Events that cause great damage and anxiety to people and the communities they strike.
Typhoon (Bagyo)
A developing weather disturbance characterized by a circular or spiral system of strong winds and heavy rain, often hundreds of kilometers in size.
Tropical Depression
A weather system with wind speeds slower than 61km/h.
Tropical Storm
A weather system with wind speeds ranging from 62−118km/h.
Typhoon (Scientific Classification)
A weather system with wind speeds ranging from 118−220km/h.
Super Typhoon
A weather system with wind speeds exceeding 220+km/h.
Flood
The overflowing and rising level of water caused by heavy and continuous rain in a community.
Flash Flood
Sudden flooding caused by heavy rain occurring within a period of six hours or less.
Storm Surge
An unusual rise in water level at the shore as a storm approaches the coast.
Paris Agreement
A treaty involving 197 member countries of the United Nations to create agreements to mitigate global warming.
Earthquake
Shaking ranging from weak to violent ground movement caused by the sudden movement of rock materials underground.
Intensity
A measure of an earthquake based on what people feel and the effects of the shaking on the environment and structures, often measured by the PHIVOLCS Earthquake Intensity Scale.
Magnitude
A measure of an earthquake based on information from instruments that declares the actual energy or strength released from the source.
Epicenter
The area on the surface of the earth directly above the focus of the earthquake.
Focus
The actual origin of the crack underground where the energy of the earthquake is rooted.
