It was very diverse spanning across Asia, but meant the threat of resistance was more apparent, which lead to violent ruling

Neither were stable, industrial revolution and enlightenment had no impact, so they were very behind compared to the rest of the world. Worries of being left behind and the military threat of Europe arose.

Underground political groups emerged and one assasinated Tsar Alexander II in 1881.
