Neoliberalism
Economic globalization beginning in the 1970s. Was the view that the entire world was a single market, the "globe was capitalist".
Reglobalization
Process of increasing circulation of goods, capital, and people. The foundations for the quickening of global economic transactions post WWII.
Transnational corporations
Large businesses that produced goods or had delivery services in many countries. (Ex: Mattel corp made Barbie)
North/South gap
The global north was prosperous, while the south had developing countries.
Anti-globalization
Idea that globalization was a "process to eliminate that multiple of people who are not useful to the powerful". Chiapas rebellion is a strong example.
Prague Spring
Used to describe acts of protest against communist rule.
Che Guevara
A failed revolutionist whose death inspired third-world liberation movements.
Second-wave feminism
Women confronted issues of oppression, labels, exploitation, sexuality, racism, etc., not by being passive, but formed groups and tackled the problems head-on.
Fundamentalism
Firm religious beliefs, reassuring their religion, even though they were constantly challenged by the secular/scientific world.
Hindutva
"Hindu nationalism". Was backed by the Baharatiya Janata Party (BJP), promoted the Hindu identity in India.
Islamic renewal
Efforts to reform the practices of Islam and create a new political/religious order. Some resorted to violence.
Osama bin Laden
Leader of the Islamic al-Qaeda group.
al-Qaeda
"The Base". Radical Islamic group that targeted and destroyed several US buildings, leading to the death of thousands (9/11).
Global warming
The most critical environmental transformation. Greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere warm up the planet.
Environmentalism
Awareness of nature and its preservation. Would end up being discussed on the political level.
Rachel Carson
A pioneer of environmentalism and author of "Silent Spring", a book exposing the environment's chemical contamination.
