The Good Samaritan story in order (10)
A lawyer tests Jesus: A lawyer asks Jesus, “What must I do to inherit eternal life?”
Jesus responds with a question: Jesus asks, “What is written in the Law?” The man replies: “Love the Lord your God... and love your neighbor as yourself.”
The man tries to justify himself: He then asks Jesus, “Who is my neighbor?”
Jesus begins the parable: A man is traveling from Jerusalem to Jericho and is attacked by robbers. He is beaten, stripped, and left half-dead.
A priest passes by: A priest sees the wounded man but crosses to the other side of the road and keeps walking.
A Levite passes by: A Levite also sees the man and ignores him, passing by on the other side.
A Samaritan stops to help: A Samaritan sees the man, has compassion, and tends to his wounds with oil and wine.
The Samaritan provides further care: He places the man on his donkey, takes him to an inn, and takes care of him.
The Samaritan pays the innkeeper: He gives money to the innkeeper and promises to pay more if needed when he returns.
Jesus ends with a question: Jesus asks, “Which of these three was a neighbor?” The lawyer replies, “The one who had mercy.” Jesus says, “Go and do likewise.”
