- Most of the alpha particles passed straight through, yet many of the particles were deflected at large angles.
- The large deflections of the alpha particles could be caused only by a center of concentrated positive charge that contains most of the atom’s mass.
- He calculated that an atom is mostly space occupied by electrons, but in the center of that space is a tiny region called nucleus.
