As an attempt to strengthen its empire by getting trade routed, resources, and construction of railroads

Negotiating to maintain peace between nations groups or individuals

ZulĂş kingdom, their king led strong defense against the British, they ended up losing but still fought hard to protect their land

Ethiopian empire defended his people during battle of Adwa against Italy and successfully kept their country independent

Buganda leader tried to negotiate with British empires to protect his people, british ended up taking over anyway

Aftican leaders tried to peacefully negotiate with British powers to protect their land. They agreed to sign treaties with hopes of maintaining power over their territories but the British twisted these agreements to allow for colonization.
Industrial Revolution
Increased Europe’s demand for raw materials, while advancements like railroads made colonization easier. Started completion between European leaders cause they all want to claim African territories, directly initiating the scramble for Africa
War of the golden stool
conflict between British and the Ashanti kingdom caused by the British wantibg to steal the golden stool in order to obtain power over their kingdom. They resisted but the British ended up capturing.
