Cardiorespiratory Fitness (CRF)
The ability to perform large muscle, dynamic, moderate-to-vigorous intensity exercise for prolonged periods of time.
VO2max
Maximal oxygen uptake; the maximal ability of the cardiorespiratory system to deliver O2 to working muscles during dynamic exercise.
Submaximal Exercise Testing
An alternative to maximal testing that is cost- and time-effective, often shorter, and continues to assess heart rate, blood pressure, and rate of perceived exertion.
Maximal Exercise Testing
A method to measure VO2max that involves the highest intensity of exercise, which may not be feasible in all health/fitness settings.
Astrand-Ryhming Cycle Ergometer Test
A submaximal test involving a 6-minute constant load, measuring average heart rate for the 5th and 6th minute to assess fitness levels.
YMCA Cycle Ergometer Submaximal Test
A test that reaches a predetermined endpoint (e.g., 85% of age-predicted HRmax) to calculate VO2 using a specific metabolic equation.
Exercise Testing Guidelines
Including primary and secondary criteria for attaining VO2max based on steady-state oxygen consumption and heart rate responses.
Cardiorespiratory Fitness Testing
Methods to measure and express cardiorespiratory fitness, typically represented as VO2max or VO2peak.
Field Tests
Common methods for assessing cardiorespiratory fitness that include outdoor activities such as distance running or walking.
Testing Modes
Various methods for cardiorespiratory fitness testing, including treadmill, cycle ergometer, field tests, and step tests.
