Anatomy
The study of the structure of the human body.
Anatomical Position
Standing upright, face forward, arms by the side, palms facing forward, feet together.
Epithelial Tissue
One of the four basic tissues used for protection.
Connective Tissue
One of the four basic tissues used for support.
Muscle Tissue
One of the four basic tissues used for movement.
Nervous Tissue
One of the four basic tissues used for impulse transmission.
Skeletal System
A system whose functions include support, protection, movement, blood formation, and mineral storage.
Skeletal Muscle
A type of muscle categorized as voluntary.
Smooth Muscle
A type of muscle categorized as involuntary.
Cardiac Muscle
A type of muscle that constitutes the heart muscle.
Heart Chambers
The four main sections of the heart: right atrium, right ventricle, left atrium, and left ventricle.
Respiratory System
A system involving the nose, trachea, bronchi, and lungs with the function of gas exchange.
Digestive System
The system responsible for digestion, absorption, and elimination.
Digestive Accessory Organs
The liver and pancreas.
Kidneys
Organs that remove waste and regulate water, electrolytes, and blood pressure.
Nervous System Divisions
The system is divided into the central and peripheral nervous systems.
Long Bone Structure
Anatomical features including the epiphysis, diaphysis, and medullary cavity.
