Evaporation
This occurs when the physical state of water is changed from a liquid state to a gaseous state. Heat (energy) is necessary for this to occur. Energy is used to break the bonds that hold water molecules together.
Condensation
This is the change of water from its gaseous form (water vapor) into liquid water. This occurs when warm air rises, cools, and loses its capacity to hold water vapor.
Precipitation
This is the primary mechanism for transporting water from the atmosphere to the surface of the earth. Can either be through rain, snow, hail, or sleet.
Collection
Precipitation that did not get absorbed into the soil, or did not evaporate, and therefore, made Its way from the ground surface into places where water collects.
