What happens to an object's motion when the forces acting on it are balanced?
The net force is zero and the object will not change its motion, meaning it will not accelerate.
What is required for an object to accelerate?
An unbalanced force must be applied and the net force has to be greater than zero.
How do you calculate the net force of forces acting in the same direction?
The forces should be added together.
How do you calculate the net force of forces acting in opposite directions?
Subtract the smaller force from the greater force.
How are velocities combined when they are in the same direction versus opposite directions?
Add velocities together if they are in the same direction and subtract them if they are in opposite directions.
Why must both speed and direction be stated when describing velocity?
Because velocity is a vector quantity, which means it has both size and direction.
What type of quantity is a force?
Forces are vector quantities.
What is the metric unit for force?
Newton's (N).
How is gravity defined?
Gravity is a force that pulls all objects down towards the center of the earth.

Friction with a box on a floor as you try to push it across the floor.

Air resistance or drag.
