1987 Philippine Constitution Article XIV, Section 19
The State shall promote physical education and encourage sports programs, league competitions, and amateur sports, including training for international competitions, to foster self-discipline, teamwork, and excellence for the development of a healthy and alert citizenry.

Physical Activity (PA)
Any bodily movement produced by skeletal muscles that results in energy expenditure; includes exercise, sports, and everyday movements.
Exercise
Planned, structured, and repetitive movement with the goal of improving or maintaining physical fitness.
Health (WHO 1946)
State of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of infirmity.
Health (WHO 1986)
A resource for everyday life and not the objective of living.
Physical Well-being
Absence of infirmity and proper functioning of the body.
Mental Well-being
Emotional and psychological health, including stress management and a positive outlook.
Social Well-being
Ability to form and maintain healthy relationships, participate in social activities, and contribute to society.
Fitness
The quality of being suitable to fulfill a particular role or task; a set of attributes that relate to the ability to perform physical activity.
Physical Fitness
A state of health and well-being and the ability to perform aspects of sports, occupations, and daily activities; achieved through proper nutrition, regular exercise, and adequate rest with a recovery plan.
Purpose of PE in University
To foster well-rounded individuals who are physically, mentally, and socially prepared for an active and healthy life within and beyond the academic environment.
Difference: Physical Activity vs Exercise
PA is any bodily movement that expends energy; exercise is a subset that is planned, structured, and repetitive to improve/maintain fitness.
