Narmer and how he united Egypt

Narmer united Upper and Lower Egypt, a division that had existed for centuries, around 3100 BCE. This unification was likely achieved through a combination of military conquest and strategic diplomacy, culminating in a single, centralized state that laid the foundation for ancient Egyptian civilization.

Old, Middle and New Kingdoms. As well, the Third Intermediate Period and Late Period. You should know 2 major things from each time period.

Old Kingdom (c. 2686–2181 BCE)

  • Age of the Pyramids: The most famous pyramids, such as those at Giza, were built during this period as royal tombs.

  • Centralized Power: A strong, centralized government was in place, with the pharaoh at its head.

Middle Kingdom (c. 2040–1782 BCE)

  • Reunification and Stability: This period saw the reunification of Upper and Lower Egypt and a return to strong central rule after a period of instability.

  • Cultural Renewal: It is considered a "Golden Age" for literature, art, and public works like irrigation projects.

New Kingdom (c. 1550–1069 BCE)

  • Territorial Expansion: Egypt became a major empire through military expansion, and pharaohs built elaborate monuments like the temples at Karnak and Luxor.

  • The Valley of the Kings: This period is famous for the royal tombs being carved into the cliffs of the Valley of the Kings instead of in pyramids.
