• Double jeopardy: A person cannot be tried for the same crime twice.

• Jury trial: All capital or "infamous" crimes must be tried by a grand jury.

• Self-incrimination: Protects against compelled self-incrimination, allowing the accused to "plead the fifth" and remain silent.

• Indictment: Before being brought to trial, a person must be indicted by a grand jury.

• Compensation: Private property cannot be taken for public use without just compensation.
