What does the engine do?
The engine converts fuel into mechanical power to move the vehicle.
What does the power train do?
The power train transfers power from the engine to the wheels.
What are the major parts of the power train?
Engine, Transmission, Driveshaft (if equipped), Differential, Axles.
What should a tune-up include?
A tune-up may include checking or replacing spark plugs, air filter, and fuel filter.
What does the alternator do?
The alternator charges the battery and supplies electricity to the vehicle while the engine is running.
What might cause an engine to overheat?
Low coolant level, Coolant leak, Broken radiator fan.
What does the fuel system consist of?
Fuel tank, Fuel pump, Fuel lines.
What does the exhaust system consist of?
Exhaust manifold, Exhaust pipes, Catalytic converter.
What is the master cylinder? What does it control?
The master cylinder is the main hydraulic component of the braking system. It controls and distributes brake fluid pressure to the brakes when the brake pedal is pressed.
To what system does the parking brake belong?
The braking system.
What is the difference between a disk brake and a drum brake?
Disk brake uses brake pads that squeeze a rotor (disc); Drum brake uses brake shoes that press outward against a drum.
What information can be found on the sidewall of a tire?
Tire size, Load rating, Speed rating.
What does the tire code tell you?
The tire code identifies the tire’s size, construction type, load capacity, and speed rating.
When should you replace a tire?
Replace a tire when tread depth is too low (about 2/32 inch or less), it has major damage, cracks, bulges, or punctures that cannot be repaired, or it is excessively worn or aged.
What should you look for when inspecting a tire for wear?
Low tread depth, Uneven tread wear, Cuts or cracks.
