Acute hemolytic transfusion Rxn
A reaction occurring during or immediately after transfusion caused by host antibody against donor RBCs and ABO incompatibility, resulting in inflammation, fever, back/flank pain, hemolysis, and hemodynamic instability.
Febrile non hemolytic transfusion Rxn
A reaction occurring within 1-6 hours caused by host antibodies against donor WBCs and the release of cytokines from donor WBCs, characterized by fever without hemolysis.
Anaphylatic transfusion reaction
An immediate Type I hypersensitivity reaction caused by an allergy to proteins in donor blood or an allergy to IgA in patients with IgA deficiency.
Transfusion related acute lung injury
A reaction caused by donor antibodies against host neutrophils and donor antibodies against pulmonary endothelial cells, leading to pulmonary edema / distress.
