Private Clouds
Cloud applications and services intended for a specific organization or entity such as the government.
Network Diagrams
Diagrams often called topology diagrams used to depict network layout and connections.
Quality of Service (QoS)
The primary mechanism used to ensure reliable delivery of content for all users.
Dedicated Leased Line
Reserved circuits within the service provider's network that connect distant offices with private voice and/or data networking.
Cloud Computing
A global trend that allows users to store personal files or backup data on servers over the Internet, allowing businesses to extend capabilities on demand.
Symmetric Digital Subscriber Lines (SDSL)
A specific format in which Business DSL is available.
Extranet
Provides secure access to an organization's network for individuals who work for a different organization and need access to network data.
Network Infrastructure Security
Focuses on the physical security of network devices and preventing unauthorized access to the management software on those devices.
Servers
Computers that provide information to end devices on the network.
DSL
A high bandwidth, always-on Internet connection that runs over a telephone line.
Public Clouds
Services and applications made available to the general public through a pay-per-use model or for free.

A security goal ensuring that only intended recipients can read the transmitted data.

A private collection of LANs and WANs internal to an organization that is accessible only to authorized members.
Four Characteristics of Network Architecture
Fault Tolerance, Scalability, Quality of Service (QoS), and Security.
Host or End Device
Every computer connected to a network where a message originates from or where it is received.
ICANN
International Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers.
Peer-to-Peer
A network model offering advantages such as being easy to set up, less complex, and lower cost.
Cellular
An Internet connection method using a cell phone network, available where a cellular signal is present.
Availability
Assurance of timely and reliable access to data for authorized users.
Four Types of Clouds
Public Clouds, Private Clouds, Hybrid Clouds, and Custom Clouds.
Integrity
Assurance that the data has not been altered during transmission.
Satellite
An Internet connection option that can provide connection when a wired solution is not available.
Ethernet WAN
Technology that extends LAN access technology into the WAN.
Fault Tolerant
A network architecture characteristic that limits the impact of a failure by limiting the number of affected devices.
Cable
High bandwidth, always-on Internet connection offered by cable television service providers.
Wide Area Network (WAN)
Spans a large geographic area typically involving a telecommunications service provider.
Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)
A major global trend that allows users to use their own personal devices for greater flexibility and opportunities.
Converged Data Networks
Networks that carry multiple services (data, voice, and video) over the same network infrastructure.
Local Area Network (LAN)
Spans a small geographic area owned or operated by an individual or IT department.
