Buccinator
Known as the "trumpeters muscle," it is a deep cheek muscle that compresses the cheek and assists in activities like whistling, blowing, sucking, and chewing.
Epicranius
Comprising the frontal belly and occipital belly of the occipitofrontalis muscle, it is involved in facial expressions.
Frontalis
Muscle responsible for raising the eyebrows, often associated with expressions of surprise.
Occipitalis
Muscle that pulls the scalp posteriorly.
Masseter
Superficial to the buccinator, it is a muscle that closes the jaw and covers the lateral aspect of the jaw.
Orbicularis oculi
Circular muscle surrounding the eye, responsible for closing the eye and actions like winking, blinking, and squinting.
Orbicularis oris
Circular muscle around the mouth, involved in actions like kissing, whistling, and closing or protruding the lips.
Platysma
A thin, sheet-like superficial neck muscle that tenses the skin of the neck, often involved in actions like shaving.
Sternocleidomastoid
A strap-like muscle that flexes the neck and aids in the rotation of the head.
Temporalis
A flat, fan-shaped muscle that is responsible for closing the jaw.
Zygomaticus major and minor
Muscles extending from the cheekbone to the corner of the mouth, involved in raising the corners of the mouth upward (smiling muscle).
