LAB 14 MUSCLES OF HEAD AND NECK
Buccinator- “trumpeters muscle” deep cheek muscle, compresses cheek, whistle,blowing, sucking assists in chewing
Epicranius: frontal belly and occipital belly of occipitofrontalis
frontalis- raises eyebrow(surprise)
Occipitalis- pulls scalp posteriorly
Masseter- Superficial to buccinator, closes jaw, covers lateral aspect of jaw
Orbicularis oculi- circular muscle around eye, closes eye, winking, blinking, and squinting
Orbicularis oris-circular around mouth, kissing, whistling muscle, closing and protruding lips
Platysma- thin, sheet like superficial neck muscle, tests skin of neck(shaving)
Sternocleidomastoid- straplike muscle, flexes of neck, rotation of head
Temporalis- flat, fan- shaped muscle, closes jaw
Zygomaticus major and minor- cheekbone to corner of mouth, raises corners of the mouth upward/superiorly (smiling muscle)
