Definition of Sports
An activity that requires physical action and skills where individuals or teams compete under specific rules and regulations.
Individual Sports
Games played by a single player against another, fostering discipline, self-confidence, and focus.
Dual Sports
Sports played by two allied players opposing another pair of players.
Sprints
Short races including 100-, 200-, and 400-meter dashes, requiring a crouch start.
Middle Distance Race
Races ranging from 800 to 1500 meters requiring both endurance and speed.
Long Distance Race
All distances greater than a mile such as marathons and 5000 meters.
Relay Race
Races performed by teams of four members, running individually and passing a baton.
Hurdles
Footraces where runners must jump over 10 barriers.
Long Jump
A jumping event landing into a pit of sand, formerly known as Broad Jump.
Triple Jump
A jumping event consisting of a hop, step, and jump into a sand pit.
High Jump
A track and field event where competitors jump unaided over a horizontal bar.
Pole Vault
A jumping event where jumpers clear a crossbar using a pole.
Discus Throw
An athletic contest where a heavy disc is thrown as far as possible.
Javelin Throw
An event where a spear is thrown; the javelin is about 2.5 m in length.
Shot Put
An event where a heavy round ball is thrown for distance.
Badminton
A sport that originated in India, formerly called Poona, introduced to England in the 1860s.
Table Tennis
A sport invented in England where players hit a lightweight hollow ball back and forth on a table divided by a net.
Backhand Service
A push action service in badminton that provides control over the shuttle.
Forehand Service
A service technique in badminton where the player stands with their weight on the back foot.
Forehand Shot
An overhead stroke in table tennis pushed forward with a firm wrist.
Drop Shot
An overhead stroke aimed from the rear court to the opponent's forecourt.
Smash
A powerful downward shot aimed at the opponent’s court.
Japanese and Korean Penhold Grip
Grip style where fingers on the back of the bat are straightened.
