Ovid Metamorphoses - line 192-206

“Nox” ait “arcanis fidissima

“Night

Quaeque diurnis aurea cum luna succeditis ignibus astra

And golden stars, which follow with the moon, the fires of the day

Tuque, triceps Hecate, quae coeptis conscia nostris

And you, triple Hecate, who are aware of our undertakings

Adiutrixque venis cantusque artisque magorum

And come as a helper of the incantation and craft of enchantresses

Quaeque magos, Tellus, pollentibus instruis herbis

And you, Tellus, who equips witches with powerful herbs

Auraeque et venti montesque amnesque lacusque

And the breezes and winds and mountains and rivers and lakes

Dique omnes nemorum, dique omnes noctis adeste

And all the gods of the groves, and all the gods of the night be present

Quorum ope, cum volui

By whose help, when I wanted

Ripis mirantibus in fontes rediere suos

The rivers went back into their sources from their wondering riverbanks

Concussaque sisto, stantia concutio cantu freta

And I halt the shaken (waters) and I shake the standing waters with a chant

Nubila pello nubilaque induco

And I drive clouds and I lead clouds in

Ventos abigoque vocoque

And I call them back

Vipereas rumpo verbis et carmine fauces

And I break the jaws of vipers with words and song

Vivaque saxa sua convulsaque robora terra et silvas moveo

And I move living rocks and oak trees torn from their earth and forests

Iubeoque tremescere montes

And I order mountains to begin to tremble

Et mugire solum manesque exire sepulchris

And the soil to bellow and the dead to leave their tombs
