Quantitative Research
A systematic way of gathering and analyzing numerical data to understand patterns, relationships, and trends, providing objective and reliable results that can be generalized to a larger population.
Descriptive Research
A kind of quantitative research that describes characteristics or status of a subject, such as the Level of Stress Among SHS Students.
Correlational Research
A type of quantitative research designed to examine relationships between variables, such as the link between Sleep Hours and GPA.
Quasi-Experimental Research
A research design used to test cause-and-effect relationships but without the use of random assignment.
Experimental Research
A research design involving strict control and manipulation to test cause-and-effect, such as studying the impact of different study techniques on retention.
Independent Variable (IV)
The variable that is manipulated or changed in a study to observe its effect; it serves as the cause or input.
Dependent Variable (DV)
The variable that is measured or observed as the effect or outcome in a study.
Control Variables
Factors kept constant during a study to avoid interference and ensure fairness, such as age, gender, or school schedule.
Intervening/Mediating Variable
A variable that explains the relationship between the independent variable and the dependent variable, clarifying "how" or "why" an effect happens.
Strengths of Quantitative Research
Key advantages include precise measurements, the ability to test hypotheses, and the use of large samples.
Weaknesses of Quantitative Research
Potential drawbacks include overlooking context or feelings and requiring specific statistical knowledge.
